"I sing sometimes like my life is at stake 'cause you're only as loud as the noises you make I'm learning to laugh as hard
as I can listen 'cause silence is violence in women and poor people if morepeople were screaming then I could relax but a
good brain ain't diddley if you don't have the facts." With everything, there is a problem. For every problem, there are many
possible solutions. It is weather or not we choose to take these actions that makes all the difference. When we fear with
no reason, hate is the result. We have the voice to change things, its just weather or not we try to, or even think about
trying to. There is always the ability to be better, to fix, and change for the better of ourselves, and out community. All
it takes is one person to begin a movement. The movement that i would hope that I could begin is an anti homophobic one. The
first reason that we need an anti homophobic movement is because antigay* remarks are commonly used, often as a derogatory
term. Anti-gay remarks can hurt a person very much. When young people are taught that it is okay to be against gays*, a prejudice
is born. Prejudice can kill a nation, and it has come very close to doing this. Once when a prejudice got out of hand, a civil
war resulted. Is this really what we want again? The second reason that we need an anti homophobic action is because gays
make up 10% of the population, and are hardly ever represented. In a doctors office, there is not an area for 'same sex couple',
as there is for a heterosexual, or straight, couple. In no continental state can a gay couple get legally married. Because
they are not legally married, insurance wont cover the other person in the family, or even the other persons child(ren)! The
constitution grants us equal rights. Now we as a community must fight for them. Thirdly, we need to combat anti-gay hate
crimes. Often, these crimes go unreported for fear of discrimination and/or abuse from the police department. Gays are often
victims of these hate crimes. When reports are filed, about 90% of the cases are ignored, and in the 10% of cases that are
perused, only around 15% of the accused are arrested, even if it is proven that the crime was a bigotry. Does this seem just?
Or does it seem more like a currupt judicil system on some levels? These things CAN be changed. All it takes is some commited
people of all ages, and a bit of work. With a change like this, community life can be bettered and many more people will prosper
from a much more loving and accepting community. Many people can work together, and by working together they can form lasting
friendships, and make a difference. "One person can change today. Many people can change tommorow. One person can change a
life. Many people can change the world." * gay is used in reference to homosexuals and bisexuals (this is by me)
